Welcome to Ashdown Junior High School! We are the A-Team!

At Ashdown Junior High, our mission is to be a school of excellence! We are scholars. We are friends. We are family. We are A-Team! We strive to reach our mission each day by providing our students with a school home that has high expectations for learning, a positive mindset for all students and staff, and a focus on teamwork where goals are achieved by working together.

Students are scheduled on an Advisory team that will collaborate together throughout the year to achieve their team’s goals and compete against other teams. Each day students will work in a small group with one teacher that serves as an advisor to students. Students will create their own goals, track their goals, and complete activities during advisory that promote social and emotional awareness and well-being, conflict resolution, and communication skills. In addition, each student is scheduled in a math, reading, and science group that will extend their learning in each area with a personalized approach to intervention and extension during RTI time (response to intervention).

This year’s theme is, “We are...Extra!”. AJHS follows the daily expectations within the PBIS behavior matrix. Our school believes everyone should be accountable, respectful, and extra! This theme is intended to motivate students to be intentional with setting academic, behavioral, and personal goals for the year and tracking their progress. We look forward to seeing students take control of their achievement through the implementation of student-led conferences, where they will facilitate progress meetings between their parents and teacher.

Parents are invited to learn about school events and other student-focused issues throughout the year with the Principal at the “Pop in with the Principal” meetings each quarter in the AJHS library. These meetings and other school events will be communicated with parents most readily through the Ashdown Public Schools Facebook page or by parents signing up for Band app free text messages from the principal (information listed below).
