Congratulations Ashdown Junior High DI Team! First Place at State!

The 6th-7th grade Destination Imagination Team placed first at
State Competition in Benton, AR on April 5. The team of Samantha Edgar, Emily
Flynt, Ali Staton and Jamie Sullivan with team manager Christine Flynt will
proceed to the Global Finals Competition May 21-24 where there will be 18,000
participants and volunteers. At least 19 countries will be represented at this
competition.
The team received the Renaissance Award for their acting performance and
backdrops.
Their challenge was to create a theatrical performance of an original story
about a real myth. The story had to be set in a nation other than their own
nation. They also had to design and carry out a Myth investigation that
investigated the facts about the myth to determine if the myth was true or not
true. They were required to conduct the experiments using the scientific
method, document their results and incorporate this information into the story
they wrote.
The team constsructed a 6 foot replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa using only
recyclable materials. The entire model was paper mached. Attachable body guards
were created which went wherever one of the characters in the skit went!
The team is excited about going to Global competition because they will get to
meet people from other countries and states.
