BOARD OF EDUCATION
January 9, 2012
The Board of Education of the Ashdown Public Schools held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Margaret Daniel Primary School.
Raymond Latson called the meeting to order at 6:25 p.m.
Ricky Ward called the roll. Raymond Latson, Rosa Bowman, Bradley Day, Ricky Ward, Chuck Davis, Dorothy Henderson, and Michael Turner were all present.
Kay York led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The meeting began with prayer by Raymond Latson.
Mr. Walker presented a review of expenditures. Chuck Davis made a motion to approve the expenditures. Dorothy Henderson seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker presented the financial report.
Mr. Walker reported the enrollment as of 1-3-12 is 1460.
Mr. Walker gave a report on the District Services Department.
Old Business
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to approve the minutes of the December 12, 2011 board meeting. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to accept the recommendation. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried.
New Business
Marshall Hughes from Beardsley Finance presented the $1,920,000.00 Bond Refunding proposal required documentation. Mr. Walker made a recommendation to accept the proposal. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to accept the recommendation. Michael Turner seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to accept the proposed method to dispose of junk buses by bid or salvage whichever is most beneficial. Chuck Davis made a motion to accept the recommendation. Dorothy Henderson seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to approve the Master Plan resolution as presented. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to accept the recommendation. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker reviewed the calendar.
There was no business from the CPPC.
There was no business from the PPC.
Michael Turner made a motion at 6:45 p.m. to go into Executive Session after a five minute break. Dorothy Henderson seconded. Motion carried.
Michael Turner made a motion to return to open session at 7:08 p.m. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried.
No action taken during executive session.
Personnel
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to accept the resignation of Marcus Bradley as of 12-16-2011. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to accept the recommendation. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to hire Marcus Bradley as a Classroom Manager effective 12-16-11. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to accept the recommendation. Michael Turner seconded. Motion carried.
Bradley Day made a motion to rescind the previous motion. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried. Bradley Day made a motion to hire Marcus Bradley as Classroom Manager effective
1-2-12. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to place the Director of Instruction salary on the Administrator Index the same as Elementary Principal according to days worked; retroactive to 7-1-2011. Bradley Day made a motion to accept the recommendation. Chuck Davis seconded. Motion carried.
Dorothy Henderson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 p.m. Michael Turner seconded. Motion carried.
