BOARD OF EDUCATION
October 18, 2010
The Board of Education of the Ashdown Public Schools held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Central Office.
Board President Raymond Latson called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Ricky Ward called the roll. Rosa Bowman, Dorothy Henderson, Michael Turner, Raymond Latson, Imogene Mize, Chuck Davis and Ricky Ward were all present.
Dorothy Henderson led the prayer.
Blake Bowles, a first grade student of Ms. Tate, led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Reorganization of the Board
Chuck Davis nominated Raymond Latson for president of the board. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to cease the nominations. Chuck Davis seconded. Motion carried.
Dorothy Henderson nominated Chuck Davis for vice president of the board. Imogene Mize made a motion to cease the nominations. Rosa Bowman seconded motion carried.
Dorothy Henderson nominated Ricky Ward for secretary of the board. Chuck Davis made a motion to cease the nominations. Michael Turner seconded. Motion carried.
Reports to the Board
Mr. Walker presented a review of expenditures. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to approve the expenditures. Ricky Ward seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Walker presented the financial report.
Mr. Walker reported enrollment was 1506 as of October 15, 2010.
Mr. Walker gave a report on the District Services Department.
Old Business
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to approve the regular minutes of the September 20, 2010 board meeting. Dorothy Henderson made a motion to accept the recommendation with necessary corrections. Imogene Mize seconded. Motion carried.
New Business
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to accept the HVAC change in bid amount of $1,109.26 for the old high school. Chuck Davis made a motion to accept the recommendation. Dorothy Henderson seconded. Motion carried.
Report to the Public
Keith Fricks made a report to the public on L. F. Henderson Intermediate School. Bryan Ledford made a report to the public on Ashdown High School. Tracy Forte’ made a report to the public on the Ashdown Junior High School. Kay York made a report to the public on Margaret Daniel Primary School. Teresa Wake & Mavis Patillo made a report to the public on C. D. Franks Elementary School. Linda Walker made a report to the public on Ashdown New Traditions School. Mr. Walker made a report to the public for Judy Dowdy on Title I funds.
There was no report from CPPC.
There was no report from PPC.
Mr. Walker reviewed the calendar. The board reviewed the board meeting host school schedule.
Mr. Walker made a recommendation to a purchase school van from De Queen Ford for $16,900.00. Dorothy Henderson made motion to accept the recommendation. Chuck Davis seconded. Motion carried.
Dorothy Henderson made a motion to go into executive session at 7:55 p.m. after a five minute break. Imogene Mize seconded. Motion carried.
Chuck Davis made a motion to return to open session at 8:15 p.m. Rosa Bowman seconded. Motion carried.
No action was taken during executive session.
Dorothy Henderson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:16 p.m. Imogene Mize seconded. Motion carried.
