Welcome back to school, A-Team!
At Ashdown Junior High, our mission is to be a school of excellence! We are scholars. We are friends. We are family. We are A-Team! We strive to reach our mission each day by providing our students with a school home that has high expectations for learning, a positive mindset for all students and staff, and a focus on teamwork where goals are achieved by working together.
One core method used to achieve our mission is our advisory program. Each day students will work in a small group with one teacher that serves as an advisor to students. Students will create their own goals, track their goals, and complete activities during advisory that promote social and emotional awareness and well-being, conflict resolution, and communication skills. In addition, each student is scheduled in a math and reading group that will extend their learning in each area with a personalized approach to intervention and extension during RTI time (response to intervention).
This year’s theme is, “Level Up!”. The purpose of this theme is for students to be intentional with setting academic, behavioral, and personal goals for the year and tracking their progress. When students take control of their achievement they increase their confidence and become a more independent learner. I am excited to see the increase in learning this year as we Level Up together!
Parents are invited to learn about school events and other student-focused issues throughout the year with the Principal at the “Pop in with the Principal” meetings on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 in the AJHS library. These meetings and other school events will be communicated with parents most readily through the Ashdown Public Schools Facebook page or by parents signing up for Remind free text messages from the principal (information listed below).
